A Letter to our Members

Dear YMCA Member,

We pray you are safe and those you love are healthy. We want you to know that we are here for you in this time of unknowns. We are in this together.

It’s been a complicated time for everyone, and we appreciate you bearing with us. Your Y leadership staff has worked tirelessly the past week responding to the most pressing needs, including standing up Emergency Childcare for our healthcare and other critically needed workers.

Now we turn our attention to social isolation…this unnatural state of alone that we all find ourselves in.  The YMCA is about helping people connect - that is what we do, it’s who we are, and we are not going to stop doing that.  Your YMCA is creating multiple ways for you and your family to connect with us and with others.  To stay healthy, to learn, to create, to thrive.  Our Facebook and webpage will have a daily growing number of ways for people of all ages to be closely connected in spirit and fun while we remain safely socially distant.

There will be STEM activities for kids led by our STEM Guru, Paul Passino, group exercise classes led by your favorite local instructors and instructors across the nation, art activities for children and adults, YMCA Facebook group chat rooms for that friendly morning conversation and messages from home from your Y staff just to say hello, we are here for you, and we miss you. We have also implemented a limited small equipment loan program for members to check out small dumbbells, bands, and exercise balls.

We have not left you.  We are the Y and we have been here for you since 1855. We are Here for You now.  And we ask you to Stay with Us… we need you more than ever, to help us continue to serve.

Help Us by Keeping your Membership Active

We need all hands-on deck. Members who continue to pay their monthly membership dues are our Sustaining Members – because they are helping us be resilient during this chaotic time. We are asking you to stay with us. We understand that everyone is not able to do so, and we need you to do what is best for your situation. Here are your options:

  • Be a Sustaining Y Member at your full monthly rate: Allow us to keep your monthly membership draft active. Your dues will be considered a contribution to our COVID 19 emergency work and be used to focus on sustaining YMCA operations and meeting community needs during this crisis period. If you choose to do this, no action is required on your part. We will continue to draft your membership and will provide you with the documentation of your charitable gift at the end of this period. You can change your mind at any time should your situation change.
  • Be a Sustaining Y Member at a 50% monthly rate: We know your circumstances may make you unable to be a full sustaining member, but you may still want to help, consider being a partial sustaining member. Call the YMCA at 315-782-3100 or email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. by March 31 at 5 pm for this to start with the April draft. Your rate will not return to full until after the YMCA reopens.
  • Place Your Membership on Hold:If you are unable to be a sustaining member by contributing your Y dues, place your membership on hold. There is no charge for putting your membership on hold during this shutdown period. We will discontinue your monthly membership draft and resume the draft when we reopen. You must call the Y at 315-782-3100 or email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. by March 31 at 5 pm to put your membership on hold beginning with the April draft. Then it will remain on hold until the YMCA reopens. A YMCA representative will be available Monday through Friday from 9 am until 6 pm to assist you.
  • Donate and do more: If you wish to make an individual donation to Support Our Ys emergency work during the COVID shutdown, please visit watertownymca.org and click on the donate now button or call 315-782-3100 to make a donation over the phone.

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you wish to reduce to 50% or put your membership on hold starting with your April Draft you must contact us by 5 pm March 31stIf we do not hear from you before 5pm on March 31st, we will continue your current membership draft and apply your sustaining membership to assist with the COVID emergency response activities. We will provide you with an acknowledgment letter for this charitable gift for your tax purposes when we reopen. We and your community thanks you for your generosity in this time of need.

Thank you for working with us to create a history that demonstrates how we came together and served those who needed us the most. Let us tell a future story of the meaningful ways in which YMCA members responded to provide Emergency Childcare and to unite us all.  Join our Virtual Initiatives: We know the Y is an extension of your family, and we remain honored to serve you. Visit our Facebook and web pages and take advantage of the YMCA calendar of activities for you and your family.

We can’t thank you enough for your support and understanding. We will continue to communicate with you through our website, Facebook, and direct emails to members. If you or someone you know have not received previous emails, now is a good time to update your email address. Send an email to This email address is being protected from spambots. At the Y we have always known we are stronger together. Join our chat, use our resources, stay home and stay safe and until we can come together again.  Most importantly, this is not forever. We’re standing by you during this trying time and ask that you stand by us as well. There’s a bright future ahead, but the only way we will get there is together.

On behalf of your YMCA Team,
